Soft ground (SG) surfaces are wet and muddy, natural ground playing fields. Usually with shorter, well maintained grass and a wet or damp feel under your feet. This type of surface doesn't really work with shorter studs as they sink into the soil and lose grip. Soft ground boots tend to have screw in studs which are longer and perfect for wetter conditions.

These studs are made out of a metal and are available in multiple lengths depending on the condition of the pitch. Because these types of studs are screwed into the sole of the boot, they can be damaged or even fall out over time, but replacement sets are available from each manufacturer.
